§ II   About this stock

Discontinued surplus ultimo adjustable metal-halide downlight — ex-distribution JCC clearance for the retrofit trade.

The JCC JC87001 is the full-size Ultimo adjustable metal-halide downlight in its tight 12° spot optic, white finish, held here in a substantial 129-unit run. Where the Ultimo Mini is the compact family member, this larger Ultimo is built around a higher-output G12 CDM-T ceramic metal-halide lamp rated 35W, 70W or 150W — a serious light engine for long-throw accenting. The 12° optic is a true narrow spot: it concentrates that high-CRI white output into a tight, high-intensity beam for picking out a single object, a feature wall, signage or a display from a high ceiling.

This stock is supplied as the fitting only — the lamp is not included, which keeps its resale position clean and its future flexible. As an empty luminaire it is not subject to the lamp or Ecodesign restrictions that apply to the sale of discontinued lamps, so the housing trades and installs freely. And because the CDM lamp is the only part that has really been overtaken, the fitting is a prime LED retrofit candidate: the heavy die-cast body, precision reflector and adjustable gimbal are built to a specification-grade standard, and G12-based LED CDM replacement lamps let a buyer convert these to low-maintenance LED spotting and return a high-value luminaire to service.

At roughly 1.3 kg each these are properly engineered fittings, and 129 units is enough to underwrite a real retrofit or resale programme. High-output adjustable metal-halide spots were premium products when specified — the choice for double-height retail, atria, gallery walls, showrooms and architectural feature lighting where you needed to throw a clean, colour-accurate beam a long way and aim it precisely. That pedigree is exactly why the housings hold value: there is no cheap current equivalent that matches the build, and a refurbisher who re-lamps to LED is selling a premium fitting, not a commodity downlight.

For a reseller the narrow 12° optic is a differentiator worth pricing on. Spot-optic fittings are less common in the surplus market than floods, and they answer a specific specification need — long-throw pin-spotting — that generic downlights simply cannot meet. Held alongside the 40° flood Ultimo Mini elsewhere in this parcel, the two give a buyer a matched flood-and-spot pair from one discontinued family, which is precisely what a designer extending or repairing an existing Ultimo scheme needs to keep the installation coherent.

Commercially the JC87001 is offered as UK surplus / liquidation stock for trade and resale only. It is not a retail product and is not sold as a stand-alone line: it forms part of Austral Prime's JCC commercial lighting whole-lot bulk package — roughly 8,585 units across infrastructure, fittings and architectural hardware, supplied as a single lot for GBP 8,500 (ex-VAT) ex-warehouse Leicester. The whole-lot structure lets one buyer take the entire discontinued range at clearance economics and then place the individual lines into their own maintenance, refurbishment, retrofit or export channels at trade margin.

End applications remain current because the requirement — a high-output, colour-accurate, precisely aimable accent spot — has not gone away; only the lamp technology has moved to LED. Flagship and department retail, galleries and museums, showrooms and car dealerships, hotel and hospitality feature lighting, and architectural fit-out are the natural destinations for these fittings, whether re-lamped to LED CDM replacements or run on metal halide where a compliant lamp is sourced. Re-using specification-grade die-cast housings rather than scrapping them supports a clean circular-economy story for refurbishment buyers.

On comparable pricing, high-output adjustable metal-halide spots occupied the top of the commercial downlight market, and the LED spot luminaires that have replaced them still price at specification tier. Buying these heavy die-cast housings as surplus and re-lamping them to LED CDM replacements therefore captures most of a premium fitting's performance at a fraction of new cost, and the narrow 12-degree optic is a scarcer, higher-value configuration than the floods that dominate the surplus market. At 129 units this is deep enough to underwrite a proper retrofit rollout or a sustained resale line.

Typical buyers are electrical wholesalers, lighting refurbishers and retrofit installers, commercial and architectural fit-out firms, pallet and job-lot liquidation traders, and export resellers serving the EU or Australian markets. UK supply is subject to VAT at the standard rate (reclaimable by VAT-registered buyers); exports removed from the UK may be zero-rated on valid evidence. The full per-SKU manifest — quantities, locations, dimensions and box-label photography — is available on enquiry. Title and risk pass on dispatch from Leicester; buyers collect or arrange their own freight. Sale is 'as is', on documentary (not third-party audited) evidence, with photographs supplied ahead of commitment.
